Tucher Nürnberger Pils

Tucher Nürnberger Pils
Extra KALTGEHOPFT (Cold Hopps)

Country of Origin Germany
Brewed in Nuremberg
5% ABV

(Testing out the new 'Drinking Jar')

Very strong tasting bordering on pungent, pale yellow, keeps it's head and perfect carbonation.

So typically German it should come wearing Lederhosen! 8.6 MWB

Suppliers Comments:-

Mahou Cinco Estrella

Mahou Cinco Estrella

Country of Origin: Spain
Brewed in: Madrid
Brewed by: Mahou-Grupo-San-Miguel
Alcohol: 5.5% Vol.

Nice and strong but the taste is a touch overpowering for me but still a quality beer so scores 7.9 MBW.

I have 3 bottles left which may find their way into someone else's fridge!

Pabst Blue Ribbon

Pabst Blue Ribbon
Country of Origin: USA
Brewed in: Milwaukee
Alc: 4.8% Vol.

Hmmm interesting one, nicely carbonated and good strength with a unique after taste which I quickly grew to like.

Not normally a fan of lager from the States but this one I am, luckily I have 6 cans to sample. Scores a Yankee Doodle Dandy 8.4 MBW

Producers History.

"Founded in 1844 by German Immigrant Jacob Best. In 1860 Frederick Pabst buys a share in the Company and in 1872 becomes President if the brewery. Pabst’s Best Select lager wins a gold medal at the Centennial Celebration, marking the first of many awards the beer will win throughout its 150+ year lifespan.
Having earned awards at US and international competitions, Pabst begins hand-tying a blue silk ribbon around the neck of each Best Select beer to identify it as a first-place winner. You know, because it was.
Pabst follows in his father-in-law’s footsteps, changing the brewery’s name to honor himself. The Pabst Brewing Company is born."

BROK EXPORT

Country of origin : Poland
Alc: 5.2% vol.
Brewed in Koszalin, Poland since 1874

Typical Pilsner flavour but lacking in fizz (carbonation to the geeks). Amber in colour and holds its head.

What it lacks in bubbles it makes up in flavour, scores 8.2MWB.

Very drinkable and reminds me of football tour.

EB SPECIAL

EB Special

Country of Origin: Poland (but only for Export)
Brewed by: Żywiec Brewery

Really surprised by this one, picked it up not expecting anything but found I really liked it.

Strange story behind the beer and after extensive research have still not got to the bottom of it.

Originally 5.7% now reduced to 5.2% ABV. My favourite Polish beer to date scores 8.0 MBW

Will be drinking again.

Producers Story

"Fifteen years ago, EB was the first triple filtered premium Pils brewed in Poland after the Russians left the country. EB became the most popular beer in Poland until the Russians got replaced by something just as uncool.

Now, EB is the first triple filtered Premium Pils brewed in Poland, you are not allowed to buy in Poland. A perfect reason to sell EB exclusively in the UK."

Basically it's brewed in Poland but purely for Export. I think after the EB Brewery was bought by the Żywiec Brewery (Poland's largest) in 1998 they discontinued selling it in Poland as it rivalled their own beers but carried on exporting it as it was popular in Germany and the US and now Gloucester!

Castle Lager

Bought for me by Craig Stone a customer of mine from Bodmin this is South Africa's most famous lager and his favourite.

A unique aftertaste that's not too shabby, could drink on a session as very moorish. Scores 8.2 MWB

The name comes from the fact the brewery was established at the Fort (later replaced by the Castle in central Cape Town) as early as 1658. I loves a bit of history with my lager.

Country of Origin:  South Africa
Brewed in: Cape Town
Alc: 5% VOL

Description from 'The Savanna' Website.

The taste of South Africa, Castle Lager is a full-flavoured, thirst-quenching must! Castle lager is a 5% pale lager that has been a staple drink since1895. Castle Lager is an internationally awarded and well-balanced beer. From barley to bottling, it takes a patient 18 days in total to create a Castle Lager and that’s why Castle Lager has been awarded many times over, from gold medals to the "World's Best Bottled Lager".
