'Alt' meaning 'old' is a dark beer traditionally served cold. Very malty in taste but this is balanced by the temperature its served at. I'm a great fan of Altbeer as this is the drink served in the 'old town' in Dusseldorf which I visit every couple of years on training courses..... which loosely translates to getting drunk whilst occasionally talking about our product.
